A few days ago I posted an article about a Jewish fundamentalist, whose deep held religious beliefs led him to advocate criminal actions. Tonight, courtesy of Amira Haas, I bring an interview with Benny Elon’s Islamic equivlent.
These two men share a common vision – a land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan river with a population which is religiously/ethnically pure. They only differ on which group comes out on top. They both are part of communities whose religious convictions leads them to act with loving-kindness and charity to their own kind – perhaps far more than their secular counterparts. And yet these same religious beliefs lead them to espouse views which are morally repugnant. In the end they share common beliefs about what they see as justifiable actions taken to achieve their goals. But these actions can only be described as crimes against humanity.
