Federal Deficit Increases Sharply
New government data shows that from last October through December, the federal government ran a deficit of $109 billion, nearly three times as big as the year before.
Good showing for Weapons Maker
Lockheed Martin, the nation’s largest military contractor, reported an 11% increase in 2002 sales. Raytheon, which makes Stinger and Tomahawk missles, reported that its fourth-quarter operating profit doubled.
Medicare Outreach Efforts Halted
Running short of money, the government has told Medicare contractors to halt outreach and education activities, intended to inform millions of beneficiaries of their rights under the federal health insurance program.
