As I’ve noted many times my blood starts to boil when so-called progressives start talking about how we need to return to being “a nation of laws.” As we see in the video, Israel has scrupulously followed the law in perpetrating this crime against innocents:
Israel’s use of the law to expropriate Palestinian land is quite common. The Israeli government puts all kinds of obstacles in the way of the Palestinians to normalize their situation. In the case above they don’t ever give permits for Palestinians to build homes to meet natural population growth (while simultaneously arguing that expanding the “natural growth” of Jewish settlements is a basic humanitarian right). The government then claims the Palestinians are not complying with Israeli law and sends the army in to destroy the “illegal” Palestinian construction (while simultaneously wallowing in victimhood when other governments meekly ask Israel to merely halt illegal Jewish settlements).
A particularly egregious example of Israel using the law as a cudgel is this story from some time back. While the Israeli Attorney General at the time did block the application of that law, Israel has plenty of other legal cudgels to use. And of course, there are plenty of illegal Jewish settlements, even under Israeli law, against which the Israeli government never applies the law. So really, why care about the law? It has nothing to with right and wrong.
