It’s so predictable. First they tell us how they are winning the “war against the terrorists.” They present all kind of facts and figures to make their case that the Palestinians are “learning the lesson.” Then inevitably the next wave of terrorist bombings come along, and all the claims sound hollow. Then follows the inevitable self-righteous declarations about the murderous enemy and the innocent blood spilt. And finally the inevitable finger-pointing at Arafat – the arch demon who is the source of all evils and from his hovel in Ramallah is somehow masterminding and financing all these murderous activites right under the nose of the Israeli army. If this absurd denial of reality wasn’t so depressing it would be pathetically amusing. Bradley Burston lays out the latest round of this cynical blame game.
