In the period leading up to the war, I often argued that the “war is about oil” is really a variation on the War is a Racket argument. In other words, this is about oil per se, but about greed and exploitation. Yesterday’s post laid out the evidence from the perspective of what is going on in Iraq. Bob Herbert lays out the trail of evidence in the U.S.
I should point out, that greed is only one part of the equation (the Cheney side). The other part (the Rumsfeld side) is about the empire exercising its power.
