A few weeks ago, the British Medical journal published in its “Personal Views” column a 900 word article by a British psychiatrist. The article discusses Israel’s war crimes against the Palestinian civilian population. Anyone who reads this weblog regularly will have read many reports and articles that substantiate and corroborate every word of Dr. Summerfeld’s article. In fact, there is not much new in it to anyone familiar with the situation.
What I found fascinating are the thousands of words written in response to this brief article. The vitriol directed at Dr. Summerfeld and the BMJ is astonishing. The level of hysteria of Jews in and out of Israel is both disturbing and dis-heartening.
One sees this hysteria reflected in the various calls for Jews to vote for George W. Bush going around the Internet. Considering that these past four years have been the absolute worst four years by ANY measure in Israel’s short history, how any sane person can argue that Bush & Co have been “good for the Jews” is beyond rational explanation.
