Sam Bahour is another commentator that I often bring to this blog. He is a Palestinian-American businessman, who left the U.S. and went back to Palestine during the Oslo heyday. His goal was to open a shopping center near Ramallah. His personal reports from the occupied territories are frightening and moving (see: here, here, here, here, here and here).
His latest commentary is a reflection on Arafat’s death and its significance for the Palestinian struggle.
“The Palestinian struggle for freedom and independence is larger than the late President Yasir Arafat. The decades-long symbolism that Arafat embodied should not be underestimated. It is this symbolism that Palestinians are mourning.”
