It drives me crazy when i see American Jews falling in line behind Sharon’s policies in the name of Israel’s security. But as Akiva Eldar points out, how can I blame them?
“How can you expect us to pressure the administration to change its attitudes to Sharon’s brutal policies,” ask [liberal leaders in the Jewish community], “when the Labor Party’s leader executes those policies and the Nobel Peace Prize laureate does such a good job of explaining the policies?”
And, lest anyone in the American Jewish community think it’s just us leftist who are exaggerating when we say Sharon is implementing a policy of ethnic cleansing on the West bank, this article by Danny Rubinstein gives tangible evidence that this is in fact the case.
Moreover, Danny Ayalon, the former head of the Shin Bet no less, has this to say about Sharon:
“If the U.S. attacks Iraq and during that attack there is a mega-terrorist incident in Israel, then Ariel Sharon could exploit the outbreak of rage in the Israeli public to conduct mass transfer of Palestinians.”
