A few weeks ago I brought an article that discusses a recent report from the Israel Democracy institute that talks about the sorry state of Israeli democracy. As I noted here, the minute you start talking about an ethnic-based state, whether it be Jewish or otherwise, democracy must go out the window.
Sadly enough, just a few days later a law barring Palestinians from getting Israeli citizenship under certain routine circumstances, passed its first reading in the Knesset. The flip side of ethnic-based is ethnic-biased. Anyone who believes either a Jewish or Palestinian state can be democratic, is fooling themselves or trying to pull the wool over other people’s eyes.
