Many years ago I met a bunch of Mormons in the cafeteria at the Israel Museum. They were very friendly and told me how strongly they supported Israel. My curiosity peaked, I asked them to send me some more information. When I started reading why they support Israel, my blood froze. A couple years ago I saw an open copy of the New York Time Magazine and started to read an article in the middle (I do that often). Says I to myself: “Hey this guy has really nailed down the Orthodox Jewish mentality.” Then I caught myself up short - it was about Christian fundamentalists, not Orthodox Jews. It is incredibly sad that Orthodoxy has made common cause with Christian anti-semites rather than with their fellow Jews.
Bibi Netanyahu, who was beloved of the Orthodox, was the first mainstream Israeli politician to hook up with the Christian Right. The unholy triangle of Israeli Militarism - Orthodox Judaism - Christian Fundamentalism should give anyone who cares about the future of the Jewish people reason to lose sleep at night.
